Following the approval of ĢƵ’s 2021 Campus Plan, ĢƵ is excited to work together with campus and neighborhood stakeholders to develop new spaces and opportunities that actively support all students’ well-being.

Two such projects that broke ground in 2023 and are currently underway are theAlan and Amy Meltzer Center for Athletic Performance (Meltzer Center), and the Sports Center Annex (SCAN). Both projects are located near Reeves Field and Bender Arena and will be the first newly constructed athletics and health services facilitieson campus in more than 30 years.

The Meltzer Center, poised to be ĢƵ’s first net zero building, will be astate-of-the-art competition, practice, and training facility that will enhance the development of our student-athletes, and bolster the overall recreational experience for the entire ĢƵ community. The project broke ground in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, renovations to the SCAN will expand critical student support services that promote and foster overall well-being and will housethe Center for Well-Being Programs and Psychological Services.

Structural steel “topping out” has occurred, with structural concrete work expected to be complete by the end of the year. Work to enclose the SCAN exterior walls is underway, with the enclosure of the CAP exterior walls to follow.

Please note that due to weather-related delays, work will continue on Saturdays to maintain the project’s timeline. We will make every effort to limit the work to nondisruptive activities. The Construction Management Plan allows work on Saturdays from 9AM to 5PM if needed to maintain the project schedule.

Please note that timelines are subject to change based on site conditions. All appropriate safety and other control measures will remain in place during the work. As a reminder, the neighborhood access gate located at the intersection of University Avenue and Rodman Street, NW is closed to prevent access to the construction area. Community members can still utilize the campus gate at the intersection of University Avenue and Quebec Street, NW.
