You are here: Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Finance Communications 2024 Campus Race to Zero Waste Competition

Communication January 30, 2024

Dear Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Community,

We're excited to share that for the third year in a row, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ is participating in the Campus Race to Zero Waste, a national competition between colleges and universities to reduce waste. The competition has begun and continues through March 23. We are officially tipping off our efforts on Wednesday, February 7 at the annual Sustainability Basketball Game. Meet us at Bender Arena at 7 p.m. to cheer on the Men’s Basketball team and celebrate sustainability on campus!

We need support from our whole community. Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Know how to sort your waste on Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s campus. Check signs and review Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s waste sorting guide.
  • Decrease your use of disposable plastics. Use reusable items like a water bottle, utensil set, and coffee mug for eating on-the-go.
  • Practice upcycling, reusing, or donating items like school supplies, clothing, and home goods.
  • Follow Ìý²¹²Ô»å  on Instagram to stay up to date with the competition.

Coming up in the next two months, we’ll host multiple opportunities to engage in more sustainable practices, including workshops where you can learn to repair clothing and host greener events. We will also offer an opportunity to commit acts of kindness for the planet at TDR, a panel event on careers in waste reduction, and a spring break office supply swap for faculty and staff. Additional information and weekly statistics will be posted on the Office of Sustainability and webpage.

Sincerely,

Megan Litke
Director of Sustainability
