Communication November 27, 2023

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the addition of Mark Newcomb to our Office of Finance and Treasurer (OFT) senior leadership team as our new Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Endowment and Treasury Management. Mark began work at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ on Monday, November 13.

Mark comes to Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ with an extensive background spanning more than two decades in managing the complex organizational and investment needs of mission-based organizations and serving as fiduciary to endowments, foundations, high net worth families, and businesses. His expertise is in global investment strategies, asset allocation and portfolio optimization, risk management, and stakeholder engagement. He also has held leadership roles in strategic planning, capital budgeting, and organizational development.

Mark will be responsible for – and advise me on – the university’s investments; endowments; and cash, credit, and debt management issues. He also will oversee merchant processing/PCI compliance, as well as the adherence to best practices in endowment and treasury management, financial reporting, and compliance with state and federal regulations.

He most recently served as Family Office Executive and Investment Committee member at Lord Baltimore Capital Group where, among his responsibilities, he advised and collaborated on decisions relating to investments, governance, structure, and the business functions of the firm. He identified, invested, and managed the risk of a portfolio of traditional and alternative public and private equity, venture capital, fixed income, and real asset investments. Previously, he was Head of Business Strategy at Rock Springs Capital LP where he most notably designed and structured the $150M Four Pines investment fund, a hybrid strategy targeting public and private emerging therapeutic companies.

Mark holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Texas Christian University.

I would like to thank our search committee and chair, Nicole Bresnahan, as well as several campus stakeholders to include key Cabinet members and board members who were involved in the search process.

We’re excited to welcome Mark to the OFT senior leadership team and look forward to his contributions and expertise in overseeing Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s endowment and treasury management.

Onward,
