Community of Scholars at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ's School of International Service is a summer program for academically outstanding high school students to take a 3-credit course in international relations. For summer 2020, the program will be shifting online, utilizing the best techniques of both live and asynchronous instruction via Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s Blackboard platform. The courses will be taught by highly regarded Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ faculty in small, interactive classes.Â
The Community of Scholars program will introduce students to the advancing fields of U.S. foreign policy, cross-cultural communication, and international peace and conflict resolution. Students will experience how national and international leaders put theory into practice by attending virtual briefings with guest speakers from institutions, such as World Bank and embassies. In addition, students will participate an SIS alumni panel discussion and hear from professional staff at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s Career Center and Undergraduate Admissions. Taking a college course helps prepare students for the expectations of higher education and will add value to their college applications and resumes. For more information email communityofscholars@american.edu, call 202-885-2442, or visit the Community of Scholars Program.
