Bio
Professor Deonna Hayes is an Assistant State's Attorney at the Office of the State’s Attorney for Prince George's County. In this role, she prosecutes criminal defendants on behalf of the State of Maryland. Serving in the major crimes unit, she currently prosecutes felonies ranging from armed carjacking to attempted murders. Prior to joining the State’s Attorney’s Office, Professor Hayes was an Associate Attorney at a Collins Legal Group, LLC, a boutique law firm in Baltimore, Maryland. There she handled a diverse caseload of civil litigation and criminal defense cases. Professor Hayes began her career as an Assistant State's Attorney at the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City, where she gained extensive litigation experience. In 2022, she was recognized by the National Trial Lawyers as “Top 40 Under 40 Civil Plaintiff Lawyer” for her superb litigation skills. Professor Hayes was selected as a 2022-2023 Maryland State Bar Association, Leadership Academy Fellow.
