Arcadia Fellowship in International Copyright

PIJIP’s project on theRight to Research in International Copyright invites applications for the Fellowship in International Copyright. The Fellowship is intended for students pursuing a career in academics, research, or public interest legal practice in the field of international copyright law. Fellows may receive a full or partial tuitionÌýscholarship for an LL.M. in Intellectual Property and Technology and a paid research position with the Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property.

Fellowship Benefits

Fellows will participate in a 16 month program of study and research, beginning in August 2025. Fellows are required to take the courses listed below. They will participate in a program-long supervised research project culminating in the presentation of a major thesis in their final semester. Fellows will also work as a PIJIP Research Assistant on collaborative research projects, performing and guiding research and analysis, and assisting in the coordination and administration of academic meetings, conferences and other activities.

Completion of this LL.M. is primarily intended for those intending to enter an academic or other research-focused career and will notÌýqualify participants to sit for the New York or another U.S. bar examination to practice law in the United States.

Curriculum

The course work for Fellows consists of a program of required courses. The program may include some or all of the following courses, with the final curriculum announced before the start of the program.ÌýÌýForeign students with an F-1 Visa must maintain 8 credits per semester and may pursue a year of at the end of the program.Ìý

ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION
Applicants must apply for and be admitted to the . To apply for this fellowship, please submit a separate fellowship application essay describing in more detail your specific public interest goals and qualifications and particular interest in any of PIJIP’s projects. We highly value recommendations from academics or public interest organizations who are familiar with PIJIP’s work. We also encourage provision of a writing sample. ÌýApplicants who are not accepted for the Arcadia Fellowship in International Copyright will be considered for the .Ìý

In order to be eligible, applicants must have:

  • Prior experience and education in public interest copyright law, such as in education, research and the needs of libraries, archives, museums, education and research institutions.Ìý

  • ÌýRecommendationÌýattesting to your experience and education in public interest copyright law, with preference given to a recommendation from a member of the Global Expert Network on Copyright User Rights, Access to Knowledge Coalition, prior recipient of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵWCL LL.M in IP and Technology, Arcadia Fellowship, PIJIP research assistant or Dean’s Fellow, or from a professor of copyright law.

  • Excellent academic record with high achievement in research and publication.

  • Submit a completed application form along with supporting documents before the application deadline

  • International applicants must meet the English Language Proficiency Requirement
